Servicing the Banksia Adolescent Psychiatric Unit - Royal Children's Hospital (RCH-IMHS) The Banksia Unit provides crisis care, mental health assessments and treatment admissions to both voluntary and involuntary clients. Twelve young people aged 12-17 years can be accommodated in the twelve-bed open ward and in the High Dependency Unit. The unit's staff includes Teachers, Psychiatric nurses, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, administrative and domestic staff. The treatment and assessment process includes group work, individual sessions, family therapy, recreation time and participation in the Education Program. Clients are expected to participate fully in the program unless they are medically compromised. The Banksia Education Program is a structured program available to all the young people admitted to the Unit regardless of their school status.
